This is a very exciting time in downtown's history. We are
reawakening downtown areas that haven't been used for several years
and making them into places of gathering, fun and enjoyment. Phoenix
Park is a wonderful example.
Formerly a factory location it now hosts Farmer's Market,
Summer Concert Series, and many festivals.

After
purchasing adjacent land from Valley Builders Hardware,
Luther Midelfort is now planning another expansion. The two
wing addition would be a five-story bed tower of 358,000
square feet of floor space housing cancer center, ambulatory
surgery center, medical surgical bed areas and women's
health and nursery facilities.
To allow for larger amount
of traffic the hospital is committed to creating a 800
parking stall ramp.
Phoenix Park Neighborhood
Phoenix Park Neighborhood is an extension of the successful Phoenix Park. Work
on the new Luther Midelfort Pharmacy began in early January 2008. Blocks 100-200 on south side of Madison St. will be developed into a grocery store, pharmacy,
retail lifestyle center and parking. This
project is the first phase of a larger, six-block plan heading
towards RCU that will include more retail, offices. Apartments, and
condos overlooking the river will be available starting
March 2009 you can request more details at
www.phoenixparkneighborhood.com. If you are looking for currently
available downtown apartments visit our

On North Barstow a new building is being constructed in between the
historic Olsen's Livery and the former Craig Chemical
Building. These three buildings will house a
restaurant, retail, several offices, and possibly loft apartments. To search

Oxford Avenue Redevelopment District
Staff from the Redevelopment Authority held an informal
meeting in February to discuss the proposed redevelopment
district from Madison Street, north along Oxford Avenue, on
the west bank of the Chippewa River. About 13 property
owners came to learn about the public timeline to create a
redevelopment district, the relocation process, and the
purpose of creating the district.
The City Council unanimously passed a resolution
supporting the need for redevelopment activities in the
Oxford Avenue area in the City of Eau Claire on March 11,
2008. This resolution also certifies the
boundaries
as proposed by the Redevelopment authority. Following
this decision a public hearing will be held on May 7th -
the purpose of this hearing is to gather additional
input on the proposed plan. Once all public input has been gathered the plan will have to be
approved by the Plan Commission, the City Council and
the Redevelopment Authority.
The entire process to create the district should
take four to six months.
